Planning your genealogy trip

Pulsing through Irish veins is an adventurous spirit that has inspired millions of Irish people to travel and roam the globe for centuries.  Their motives ranged from those missionaries who set out to spread Christianity throughout the world, to the disillusioned nobility who became the Wild Geese as they settled in Europe and South America.  Many Presbyterians from the Northern counties looked to the new world for religious tolerance, whilst others left as traders, merchants, and soldiers.  The 19th century saw the greatest exodus from Ireland to North America and Australia, driven out by famine, poverty and disease.  In more recent times, emigration continued up to the middle of the 20th century especially to Britain.  More than one million people of Irish descent currently reside in Britain.  It’s never been a better time to start your search for your Irish Ancestry.  Our short, starter guide provides a key introduction.
