Graveyard records available online
Two types of graveyard records exist – cemetery burial records and headstone transcripts.
Cemetery Records:
- Belfast City Council burial records – Belfast City Council records from 1869. Approximately 360,000 records are available from Belfast City Cemetery (from 1869), Roselawn Cemetery (from 1954) and Dundonald Cemetery (from 1905).
- Buried in Fingal – A database for North County Dublin, provided by Fingal County Council.
- Clare County Library – Transcriptions for graveyards in Co. Clare.
- Cork City and County Archives – Burial records for areas in and around Cork City.
- Dublin Cemeteries Trust – 1.5 million records from Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin dating from 1828.
- Galway County Council Archives – Burial registers for graveyards in Co. Galway.
- Kerry Local Authorities – Graveyard Records – Burial registers for graveyards in Co. Kerry.
- Kerry County Council Archaeologically Protected Graveyards – Between 2006-2012 Kerry County Council, in partnership with the Heritage Council, undertook a project to survey 94 archaeologically protected graveyards.
- Limerick City Archives – Burial registers for Limerick City, including Mount St. Lawrence & Mount St. Oliver burial grounds.
- Skibbereen Heritage Centre – Transcribed burial registers for graveyards in the West Cork area.
- Waterford City and County Archives – Digitised burial registers for 5 burial grounds in Waterford City and County.
Headstones:
These have been transcribed, published and digitised in many places.
- Dublin Cemeteries Trust – For a guide to Dublin city and county transcripts.
- History from headstones – Includes gravestone transcripts for Northern Ireland. Over 1,800 burial grounds to date have been identified and information continues to be collated on them.
